Two games into the 2023-24 basketball season, the Virginia Tech men sit at 1-1 with a win over Coppin State and a loss to South Carolina. In both games, there has been one player who has stuck out for coach Mike Young and that is guard Sean Pedulla.

It should not come as a surprise that the junior has been good for the Hokies, but if they are going to be as good as they can be, they are going to need the sharpshooter to continue this strong play.

Sean Pedulla has been as good as advertised through two games

Against Coppin State in the season opener, Pedulla recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists in the Hokies’ 100-55 win. That night, the Oklahoma native did a nice job of finding teammates with his exceptional court vision.

In the Hall of Fame Series in Charlotte last Friday night, the Hokies suffered a frustrating loss to the Gamecocks, a team picked to finish last in the SEC in the preseason poll. Virginia Tech trailed most of the game but made a run in the second half thanks to Pedulla.

He scored 22 of his 26 points in the second half and got hot from behind the 3-point line. After the under-four media timeout, he gave Virginia Tech the lead at 72-69 with three free throws, but as was the trouble last season, the Hokies failed to get stops on the defensive end and allowed South Carolina to steal a 79-77 win.

If there is one thing about Pedulla, it’s that he gets his teammates involved and players like Hunter Cattoor benefit, but the senior was unable to knock down shots against the Gamecocks.

There is no doubt that Pedulla is going to be good this season for Young and his staff, but they’re going to need the other players around him to be good as well. Through two games this season, Pedulla has been the best player for Virginia Tech.
