Thursday night’s early-season women’s college basketball showdown between No. 3 Iowa and No. 8 Virginia Tech is loaded with star power on both teams.

Last season, both teams made the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament in Dallas, but the two did not face each other. The Hokies suffered a loss in the semifinals to eventual champion LSU, while the Hawkeyes knocked off South Carolina to play the Tigers in the championship game.

Over the summer, it was announced that the two schools would square off in an early-season Top 10 matchup at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game will be televised on ESPN2 beginning at 8 p.m., but the arena is expected to be sold out and several scouts will be in attendance from WNBA teams and Team USA.

Virginia Tech vs. Iowa women’s basketball bringing out the scouts in big numbers

It was reported that seven WNBA teams will have scouts in attendance at the Spectrum Center, as well as scouts from Team USA. When this game was announced, you could almost predict that this game this early in the season was going to bring out the professional scouts in droves to Charlotte.

There is no shortage of talent on both teams that the scouts will be paying close attention to. Virginia Tech’s Elizabeth Kitley is going to have a lot of eyes on her, as is Georgia Amoore for the Hokies. On the other side, Iowa’s sharp-shooting guard Caitlin Clark is also going to get a look from the scouts.

It would not be surprising to see Kitley and Clark go 1-2 in next season’s WNBA Draft as both have long professional careers ahead of them wherever they play. In the overall big picture, whether it’s inside the Spectrum Center or at home on TV, there are going to be plenty of eyes on this matchup in early November.
