Coming into the 2023-24 women’s college basketball season, the hopes were high around the Virginia Tech and Iowa teams, and why not? Both teams were two of the final four teams standing in Dallas last spring in the Final Four. They were on opposite sides of the bracket and they did not get to play each other.
Virginia Tech lost to LSU in the semifinals and Iowa was able to outlast South Carolina to advance to the championship game where they ended up losing to the Tigers. Now almost eight months later, the Hokies and Hawkeyes will meet in just the second game of the season.
