College Football Playoff: How many ACC teams were ranked this week?
By Scott Roche
Tuesday night, the second College Football Playoff Rankings were released. In the first release last week, the ACC had two teams, Florida State and Louisville that were ranked in the Top 25. This week, the conference picked up a third team in North Carolina.
Florida State again was ranked No. 4, Louisville was No. 11 and North Carolina checked in at No. 23.
Florida State and Louisville headed for ACC title clash
If there is one thing that the 2023 ACC college football season has told us, it’s that there is no question as to who the two best teams in the conference are. Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry and his team, have got an up close and personal look at both teams.
On Oct. 7, the Hokies traveled to Tallahassee and lost 39-17 to the Seminoles. Virginia Tech spotted FSU a 22-0 lead in the opening quarter before coming back and cutting the deficit to 22-17 at the beginning of the third quarter when Bhayshul Tuten returned the opening kickoff of the second half 99 yards for a touchdown.
It was a typical Hokies road game this season where they allowed big plays and they were not able to dig themselves out of the deficit.
Last weekend, Virginia Tech was routed 34-3 at the hands of Louisville, also on the road. The Hokies entered the game with one conference loss and had a chance to hand the Cardinals their second and take control of their path to play the Seminoles in the conference title game on Dec. 2 in Charlotte. Instead, they reminded their fanbase that they are still in the process of rebuilding and they are not ready for the big moment just yet.
In the end, the ACC’s best shot at getting a team into the four-team playoff is Florida State and that would require them to run the table, something that they are more than capable of doing. Louisville, on the other hand, would need a miracle to find themselves into the playoffs, but hey, who knows, stranger things have happened.
