Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball: 3 predictions & games to watch
By Scott Roche
The 2023-24 Virginia Tech women’s basketball season is here and there is a lot of hype surrounding head coach Kenny Brooks and his team Fresh off of their ACC Tournament Championship and a trip to the Final Four in Dallas last March.
The Hokies got some preseason recognition and begin the season ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. They return some talent that could make the season a very enjoyable one for the team and their fans. With the season opener here tonight, Nov. 6 against High Point at 5 p.m., here are three predictions for this season and some key games to watch as the season unfolds.
1st prediction: Virginia Tech wins ACC regular-season and tournament
You might be thinking, seriously, win the ACC regular season and ACC Tournament? Well, the conference is the toughest in women’s basketball and every night is going to be a battle. Last season, the Hokies finished third and this season, they’re primed for a strong season.
Notre Dame begins the season ranked No. 10 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll, while North Carolina is No. 16, Louisville is No. 17, Florida State is No. 18 and Duke and Miami also received votes. That’s how tough it’s going to be on a nightly basis once conference play begins.
Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore are the two key returning players along with Cayla King and Brooks added some good freshmen who will make the transition into the rotation as the season goes along. Add in tough non-conference games against Iowa, Kansas, and LSU, the Hokies will be tournament-tested once the NCAA Tournament begins.
