In this edition of Virginia Tech News, two women’s basketball players were added to a watch list, the volleyball team returned to the court, and more.

Virginia Tech women’s basketball players on preseason watch list

The 2023-24 women’s basketball season kicks off Monday night, Nov. 6, when the Hokies, fresh off their trip to the Final Four last spring, open the season with a non-conference game against High Point. Before the season starts, two Virginia Tech players were added to the Naismith Trophy watchlist for this upcoming season.

Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore were on the preseason watch list and the duo are two deserving players. A lot of what the Hokies want to accomplish this season depends on their dynamic duo.

Men’s and women’s home openers one day away

After the Virginia Tech women kick off the season against High Point Monday night, the Hokies men will take the floor under coach Mike Young to kick off their season against Coppin State.

The men will be looking to get back to the NCAA Tournament this season after settling for an NIT bid last spring and a first-round loss at Cincinnati. Guard Rodney Rice left the program two weeks ago, which leaves a big void in Young’s rotation.

Volleyball continues struggles at North Carolina

The Hokies volleyball team returned to the court Friday night in Chapel Hill against North Carolina and after battling the Tar Heels in the first set before losing 25-22, Virginia Tech dropped the last two games, 25-14 and 25-18 to get swept.

Hailey Pearce continued her strong season campaign with 11 kills and Elayna Duprey added 10. Iliana Rodriguez had seven digs for the Hokies who fell to 2-11 in the ACC and back to .500 overall at 12-12. Virginia Tech will return to the court today in Durham against Duke in another conference matchup.
