In this edition of Virginia Tech News, ESPN released the announcer’s schedule for this weekend’s football game at Louisville, the men’s soccer team kicked off the ACC Tournament at North Carolina, and more.

Men’s soccer drops ACC first-round match at North Carolina

It was a promising start for the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team Wednesday night in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The 10th-seeded Hokies scored in the second minute on a goal from Misei Yoshizawa, but that would be the only bright spot as the Tar Heels tallied two goals before halftime and two more in the second half for a 4-1 win.

Virginia Tech, which tied North Carolina earlier this season 1-1 in Blacksburg, finishes the season at 4-9-4.

ESPN announces TV crew for football at Louisville

Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech football team heads to Louisville for a key ACC showdown that has huge implications for the ACC Championship game in December in Charlotte. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network and ESPN released the announcers for the game.

ESPN is sending Chris Cotter to handle the play-by-play duties and he will be joined by Mark Herzlich who will be the analyst and Ashley Stroehlein will be the sideline reporter in Kentucky. Cotter is one of the most experienced play-by-play callers the network has and Herzlich was a former standout at Boston College. Both Cotter and Herzlich have called Hokies’ games this season for the network and do a terrific job.

Basketball season-opener inches closer

The countdown is on for the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s basketball season openers. The women, fresh off their trip to the Final Four last spring will kick off the season Monday night, Nov. 6 at home at 5 p.m. against High Point. The men will follow at 8 p.m. against Coppin State. Can’t believe the college basketball seasons are finally here.
