Oh, how things have changed for the Virginia Tech football team. Four weeks ago, their season was on life support following three straight non-conference losses to Purdue, Marshall, and Rutgers. It’s not exactly a difficult schedule for a Power 5 school.

Sitting at 1-3 and looking at eight ACC games to close the season, the Hokies have done a big  turnaround and are now in a position many people did not see them in. After their 38-10 win over Syracuse at Lane Stadium Thursday night, Virginia Tech is 4-4 with four games remaining. They are in third place in the ACC at 3-1, a half-game behind Louisville and looking up at undefeated Florida State.

Needing to win two of their final four games to become bowl-eligible, it’s going to be tough with three of their final four games on the road, but it’s certainly doable. How doable? ESPN thinks very doable.

Virginia Tech is a favorite in three of their final four conference games

ESPN’s predictor is liking the Hokies’ chances to at least split their final four games of the season. Here is Virginia Tech’s percentage win based on the ESPN predictor,

  • Sat. 11/4: Virginia Tech at Louisville, 28.0% chance to win
  • Sat. 11/11: Virginia Tech at Boston College, 60.3% chance to win
  • Sat. 11/18: Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina State, 60.5% chance to win
  • Sat. 11/25: Virginia Tech at Virginia, 66.0% chance to win

Those odds are up significantly from just a couple of weeks ago and it’s not surprising given how things have gone the last month with dominating wins over Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and Syracuse. Those games, however, were all at home and the question is, can they be successful on the road like at Lane Stadium?

The toughest remaining game is this upcoming weekend at Louisville and that is the game that has the Hokies attention as well as head coach Brent Pry, as it should.
