In this edition of Virginia Tech news, the odds are out for Thursday’s football game at home against Syracuse, the women’s soccer team played their final home game of 2023, and more.

Virginia Tech football opens as home favorite against Syracuse

The Virginia Tech football team returns to action following their much-needed bye week with an ACC home game against Syracuse on Thursday night at Lane Stadium. The Hokies enter the game at 3-4, while Syracuse is 4-3, but Tech opened as a favorite on Sunday.

The Hokies open as a 3-point favorite, but both teams are -110 on the money line according to DraftKings. If the Hokies are going to become bowl-eligible, this feels like a game they have to have. Like Tech, Syracuse is coming into the game off their bye as well.

Women’s soccer defeats Miami in home finale

The women’s soccer team played their final regular-season home game against Miami Sunday and they came away with a 3-0 win over the Hurricanes. Natalie Mitchell scored in the first half of Tech before Sophie Maltese scored two more in the second half.

Tech will close the regular season Thursday night with a match at Pittsburgh at  7 p.m.

The Virginia Tech volleyball team began the weekend beating Notre Dame in five sets Friday night, but Sunday, they fell to 2-8 in the ACC with a four-set loss to visiting fifth-ranked Louisville.

Sydney Petersen had 11 kills for Virginia Tech, nine digs from Hailey Pearce, and three aces from Iliana Rodriguez. The Hokies, who are 12-9 overall, travel to Pittsburgh next Friday, and then Virginia next Sunday.

This is going to be a busy week in Blacksburg with the basketball teams traveling to Charlotte for the ACC Tipoff on Tuesday and Wednesday.
