Virginia Tech Lie: Grant Wells was the right choice as starting QB

I get it, Pry went with his returning senior at quarterback, but in the overall big picture, it is Drones that is the best option for the Hokies moving forward. Nothing against Wells, but his teammate gives Virginia Tech more options.

Wells was looking to have a bounce-back season following rough 2022. When Pry announced at the beginning of the season, he also said that there was going to be stuff in the offense for Drones, who saw some action in the opener against Old Dominion. Against Purdue, Wells was injured neat halftime but stayed in the game in the second half until the final possession when Drones was brought in.

Wells is slowly getting better and when he is cleared to return, Drones is still the QB under center that the Hokies need to stick with. He gives them the best chance to win and right now, he is playing with confidence, something you don’t want to mess with in a young player.

Five weeks remain for the Hokies and they are in a position that not too many people saw after the 1-3 start. They can win three out of their final five games and extend their season beyond Thanksgiving Weekend against Virginia. That would be a big step in the right direction for the program.

Brent Pry needs to continue to excel in this area. light. Related Story
