Virginia Tech football keeps scoring streak alive
When the Hokies beat Wake Forest, 30-13, last Saturday at Lane Stadium, Tech extended their consecutive scoring streak to 364 games, placing them fourth among teams with an active scoring streak. Ahead of them are Florida (444), TCU (389), and Georgia (365).
With any points against Syracuse on Oct. 26 in Virginia Tech’s next game, they’ll tie Michigan at 365 straight games from 1984-2014. The last time the Hokies went scoreless in a game was in 1995.
Three ACC teams debut in the AP Top 25 college basketball poll
A sure sign that the college basketball season is around the corner? The Associated Press Top 25 poll was released and surprisingly the ACC only had three teams. Duke was ranked No. 2, Miami was No. 13 and North Carolina was No. 19. Virginia was the only other conference team that received any votes.
In terms of the Hokies, that means just three opponents begin the year ranked, but of course, all of that can change on a week-to-week basis. Right now, no non-conference opponents are ranked. For those counting at home, the 2023-24 basketball season for the Virginia Tech men and women begins in 19 days.
Women’s soccer drops inter-state match to Virginia
The 2023 ACC soccer season is coming down to its final weeks and the Virginia Tech women dropped a 3-0 match to Virginia in Charlottesville on Oct. 15. The Cavaliers scored a goal in the first half, then tallied two more in the second half.
The Hokies dropped to 6-6-3 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play. They return to the pitch on Oct. 19 against Duke at 7 p.m. in Blacksburg.
Virginia Tech volleyball returns to the court Friday
After dropping a three-set match at North Carolina State on Oct. 15, the Hokies sit at 11-8 overall and 1-7 in the ACC. They return to the court Friday night when they host Notre Dame as they look to get back on track after starting the season 9-0.
