On Tuesday, the Associated Press released its Top 25 for women’s college basketball, and Virginia Tech was ranked in the top 10.

Virginia Tech women’s basketball gets preseason top 10 ranking in AP poll

Virginia Tech, who had two deep postseason runs, put together one of the best runs in program history and they begin the 2023-24 season as the No. 8 ranked team in the country by the AP. In early March,  they captured the ACC Tournament Championship, then put together a memorable run in the NCAA Tournament. The Hokies won the Seattle Regional and advanced to the Final Four in Dallas where they came up two wins short of their goal of a National Championship.

Here is how the women’s preseason AP Top 25 looks,

There is no shortages of opponents that are on the Hokies schedule this season that join them in the AP poll. LSU, which beat Virginia Tech, 79-72, in the National Semifinals in Dallas, will host Tech as part of the SEC/ACC Challenge on Nov. 30. Iowa will play Virginia Tech on Nov. 9 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C. in what is a premier powerhouse matchup in the first week of the season. ACC foes, Notre Dame, Louisville, and Florida State also begin the season ranked with the Hokies.

Virginia Tech opens the season on Nov. 6 at home as part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The women host High Point at 5 p.m., followed by the men hosting Coppin State at 8 p.m. Several key pieces are returning to coach Kenny Brooks for this upcoming season and expectations are high in Blacksburg ahead of the season.
