After losing three straight following a season-opening win over Old Dominion, the Virginia Tech football team opened up ACC play Saturday night at Lane Stadium with a 38-21 victory over Pittsburgh. It was the best 60-minute effort for a Brent Pry-coached team in his two seasons in Blacksburg.

The win, for now, settled down the Hokies fanbase and took some heat off of Pry and his coaching staff. At 2-3, Virginia Tech will head to Florida State this upcoming Saturday afternoon at 3:30 on ABC to face the best team in the conference. To nobody’s surprise, the betting line for the Week 6 games came out and the Hokies win over the Panthers did nothing to change the minds of the bettors and nor should it have.

Virginia Tech opens as a massive underdog at Florida State

According to DraftKings, the Hokies are 25-point underdogs in Tallahassee Saturday with an over/under of 53. It should come as no surprise that Virginia Tech is a massive underdog as the Seminoles are not only the best team in the ACC, but in college football. They opened the season with a non-conference win over LSU, then last weekend, beating Clemson on the road in overtime. In between they survived a scare from Boston College, but nowadays it’s easy for teams like FSU to overlook the Eagles.

Florida State had their bye this weekend and will be well-rested when the Hokies arrive. Virginia Tech enters the game coming off of their best effort of the season, getting the running game going and stopping the Pittsburgh running game on defense. Florida State is a much different team with Jordan Travis at quarterback and regardless of the result, this will be a good test for the Hokies mentally all week leading into the game, then the 60 minutes on the field.

By the time kickoff time approaches, it would not be surprising to see the line move up a little bit and the over/under as well. To me, the first line is a little generous for the Hokies. It’s the fourth time in the series that FSU is a 20-plus point favorite.
