Virginia Tech Football: Brent Pry has hilarious quote about Kyron Drones
By Scott Roche
Saturday night at Lane Stadium, the Virginia Tech football team secured a very much-needed 38-21 ACC victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers. A big reason for the win was quarterback Kyron Drones who looked more comfortable in his third start as a Hokie.
The Baylor transfer threw for 228 yards, and three touchdowns, a 54-yard pass to Da’Quan Felton in the first quarter, a 12-yard pass to Bhayshul Tuten in the second quarter, and a 53-yard pass to Jaylin Lane who picked up most of his yards after the catch and outran the Panthers secondary in the third quarter.
Drones rushed for a 2-yard touchdown in the second quarter, then early in the third quarter after Virginia Tech forced a fumble and recovered it at the Pittsburgh 9-yard line, Drones scored on a 10-yard run on third down. After he crossed the goal line for a 28-7 lead, he spiked the ball, which drew a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalty was assessed on the ensuing kickoff and it gave Pittsburgh great field position at their 39. On their first play, quarterback Phil Jurkovec tossed a touchdown pass to C’Bo Flemister for 61 yards. For the momentum, the penalty which ended up giving the Panthers good field position quickly erased any momentum Tech had.
Following the game, Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry joined the ACC Network at Lane Stadium as the ACC Huddle was there and the second-year man in charge of the Hokies dropped a hilarious quote about his sophomore quarterback.
Was Pry being serious? Maybe, but the funny part near the end part of the clip is that it was brought up that Tuten also spiked the ball when he scored his touchdown late in the second quarter but was not penalized.
Will Pry make his QB run penalty laps? Who knows, but he should get a pass after his performance which was the main reason for the Hokies’ much-needed ACC opening win.
