Following Virginia Tech’s 35-16 loss to Rutgers Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, Hokies coach Brent Pry and other spoke about the loss and moving forward. As usual, we will take a look at what was said and give our opinion and comment on the quotes, whether they’re good or bad. There’s no holding back each week, win or lose.

Pry spoke about the slow start that got the Hokies behind 21-3 at halftime.

"“We need to start better. I don’t know if it’s a confidence thing. We know the team we can be. There’s signs of it in both of these losses.”"

Yes, fumbling on the second play of the game and gifting the home team the ball at your 19-yard line is not a ideal start, however, the Hokies responded, but a missed field goal and a shanked punt played a part in the early deficit.

Pry spoke about Drones play in his first start as quarterback for Virginia Tech.

"“I would say inconsistent, but I’d say there were some really good things. A lot to build from.”"

Yes, there was a lot to build off of, but he can’t deny that it was the best the offense looked through the first three games. Again, he needs to start next week, regardless of how Grant Wells feels. But apparently, Pry feels differently as he spoke about getting Wells healthy.

"“We have to get him going.”"

Yes, you have to get him ready and healthy, to be Drones back up next week. Not sure what we’re doing here.

Despite catching a touchdown pass in the third quarter, Da’Quan Felton talked about his performance against the Scarlet Knights and moving forward.

"“I left some plays out there. I felt I could’ve played better. I will be better next week.”"

Yes, he’s correct, he did leave some plays out there, however, he can’t do it himself with Ali Jennings out injured. Other wide receivers and tight ends need to step up.
