Virginia Tech News: Football sellout, soccer & volleyball

With the weekend approaching, it will start to get busy again for the Virginia Tech athletic programs. In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies news, there was an announcement for the next home football game, soccer returns to the pitch, and volleyball returns to the court this weekend at home.

Virginia Tech announces next home football game sold out

Thursday, the Virginia Tech athletic department announced the Sept. 30 home game against the Pittsburgh Panthers is officially sold out. It will be the third consecutive sellout at Lane Stadium after the Old Dominion and Purdue games were sold out the first two weeks.

The Hokies are on the road for their next two games, this Saturday at Rutgers at 3:30, then Sept. 23 at Marshall at noon. The school also announced that tickets for the three remaining home games after the Pitt game are against Wake Forest, Syracuse, and North Carolina State.

Men’s and women’s soccer return to pitch this weekend

The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team hits the road for Chapel Hill, N.C., and an ACC battle with North Carolina Friday afternoon. The Hokies are 3-2-3 after their non-conference schedule and are coming off a 3-2 loss at home Sunday against No. 20 Northwestern.

The men also hit the road and will be looking for their first win of the season with an ACC match at No. 7 Louisville. At 0-2-3, the Hokies are coming off of a 1-1 tie in their ACC opener last week at home against North Carolina.

Hokies volleyball to host three teams this weekend

The undefeated Virginia Tech volleyball team returns home this weekend to host three teams and looking to improve on their 9-0 record, the program’s best start since 2009. Friday, the Hokies will play Queens, before playing two matches on Saturday against East Carolina and Duquesne. They will open ACC play next week at home against Florida State.
