The weather on Saturday in Blacksburg has been downright miserable. The Hokies and Purdue began their game for 21 minutes because of a weather delay, then just 9:10 into the first quarter, the game was stopped again when the weather once again got nasty.

Severe thunderstorms roared through the area of Lane Stadium and some of the videos on Twitter (oops, I did it again, I mean X) painted an ugly picture. Joining in on the fun on social media was the Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball teams X account.

Virginia Tech women’s basketball X account drops hilarious post

Nearly two hours into the second weather delay of the afternoon, the Hokies Women’s Basketball X account dropped a very funny social media post.

In the overall big picture, they are not wrong. This time of the year, the weather can be downright crazy in Virginia and that was on display Saturday. The women’s basketball team is coming off one of their best seasons in program history after winning the ACC Tournament last March and then advancing all the way to the Final Four in Dallas before losing to LSU in the semifinals.

They were honored at last week’s football game against Old Dominion at halftime along with a handful of other Virginia Tech teams. They did, however, get in on the fun with the weather delay against Purdue on Saturday.

The weather was crazy in Blacksburg and it was so severe that it shorted out the scoreboard at Lane Stadium. Purdue held a 7-0 lead when the delay started and they were on the move again with the ball near midfield looking to get back into Hokies’ territory.

The news wasn’t great for Virginia Tech on the injury front with Ali Jennings leaving the game early with a left foot injury, but with the delay spanning over multiple hours, the women’s basketball team’s X account wanted to remind everyone that the basketball season isn’t too far off and they will be shooting a ton of threes at an arena near you soon.
