Virginia Tech Football: 3 reasons the Hokies will beat Old Dominion
By Scott Roche
1. New offensive additions are going to make a difference for Wells
Expect quarterback Grant Wells to have a bounce-back season in 2023 and Pry adding three wide receivers from the transfer portal will certainly help. Wells was pushed in camp by transfer Kyron Drones, who should see time this season as well, and it was good for him to be pushed to be better after throwing for just over 2,000 yards in 2022.
There is one setback for the first game as trusted tight end Nick Gallo will most likely miss the game with an injury suffered in camp. Not only is Gallo a trusted receiver, but he is a big part of their blocking schemes for the running game. Tight ends Benji Gosnell and Dae’Quan Wright will get an opportunity early in the season.
New wide receivers Ali Jennings, Da’Quan Felton, and Jaylin Lane will look to play a big game and stretch the field for running backs Bhayshul Tuten and Malachi Thomas.
As mentioned earlier above, Virginia Tech is a big favorite to win and we agree that they’ll win, 31-13. Setting the tone for the season with a victory with three more non-conference games in September is going to be key.
