The 2023 season kicks off for the Virginia Tech Hokies Saturday night at Lane Stadium with a non-conference tilt against the Old Dominion Monarchs. The Hokies are looking for revenge for a 20-17 season-opening loss last season.

Quarterback Grant Wells returns for his senior season at Tech and will have three wide receivers who came to Blacksburg in the transfer portal, including Ali Jennings who played for the Monarchs last season. He had five receptions for 122 yards against the Hokies last September. This is going to be the first game for second-year head coach Brent Pry and getting a win in the opener will go a long way to helping them improve on last season’s 3-8 record.

Old Dominion vs. Virginia Tech Predictions and Pick

There is no reason why the Hokies should not be ready for this game. This is a statement season-opener for Pry and his team and if they fail to come out with a victory, it will be disappointing, to say the least. Wells has more skilled players at his disposal and they should be able to mix the running and passing games. The defense will come to play and set the tone early in the game. Prediction: Virginia Tech 31, Old Dominion 13
