Virginia Tech Football vs. Old Dominion odds and betting lines
By Scott Roche
The Virginia Tech football team kicks off the 2023 season Saturday night at Lane Stadium with a non-conference game against Old Dominion. The Hokies will be looking for some revenge after dropping the 2022 season opener, 20-17, to the Monarchs.
With the game three days away, the odds are favoring the Hokies to come away with a win to begin the season on the right foot.
FanDuel favors Virginia Tech to beat Old Dominion
FanDuel has the Hokies as -15.5 favorites to win and has them at -110 to cover the spread. On the money line, Virginia Tech is a -690. The Monarchs are a -110 to cover the spread, which makes it a toss-up, while they are +480 on the money line. The over/under is 47.5 and both are at -110.
This is a big line for the Hokies to be a favorite with, but they are telling you that they expect them to be able to at least win the game, despite how many questions surround them entering 2023.
DraftKings also favors Virginia Tech to beat Old Dominion
DraftKings has the Hokies as a -16 favorite to win their opener and do it convincingly and a -110 to cover the spread. Virginia Tech is -700 on the money line, while Old Dominion is +500 on the ML. The over/under is 48 and both are at -110.
Both betting agencies like the Hokies to win and win big, but while we like them to win as well, the lines are a bit too large for our liking. Virginia Tech’s offense with Grant Wells at quarterback has a lot of questions, despite getting three transfers in the portal over the offseason.
Their defense is expected to be improved and will more than likely create more turnovers than they did last season, but their linebackers and cornerbacks are going to be key positions that need to develop quickly early in the season.
