ESPN recently released their Top 40 rankings for the 2024 football recruiting class and six Atlantic Coast Conference schools made the list. Of the six schools, Virginia Tech checked in at No. 36.

It’s a big move for second-year coach Brent Pry to be able to land two ESPN Top 300 recruits for the future, one on offense and one on defense.

Virginia Tech and Pry land in-state standouts

Pry landed wide receiver Keylen Adams, ranked No. 180 in the ESPN Top 300 and they were able to land him over the University of Virginia. Adams is a big play-making receiver with length and speed, according to Craig Haubert of ESPN.

Chanz Wiggins also has committed to the Hokies as a wide receiver and the four-star recruit will be a nice addition at 6-foot-3 with a big catch radius.  Any offense that Pry can land for the future will be welcomed with their struggles in recent years. He took a step in that direction this season by adding three wide receivers in the transfer portal.

On the defensive side, linebacker Gabriel Williams will stay in Virginia to play for the Hokies and he is a four-star recruit, a big addition. He is an edge defender with a high ceiling, but Pry likes to pride himself on the defensive side of the ball, and getting Williams will go a long way into solidifying that side of the ball.

Virginia Tech was the sixth-ranked ACC school and it might not be surprising to see who was ranked ahead of them on the list, but where. Florida State was ranked sixth, Clemson 11th, the University of Miami 15th, Georgia Tech 24th, and the University of North Carolina 26th.

All the focus for the Hokies is the 2023 season that gets underway on Sept. 2 against Old Dominion at home, but there certainly is some excitement for the future after this season.
