5.       ESTABLISHING A DEFENSIVE IDENTITY AND STRONG RUN GAME

As previously stated, Brent Pry seeks to establish a dominant defense and strong running game in his first year at Virginia Tech, in the mold of his mentor Bud Foster as well as his teams at Penn State under Head Coach James Franklin.  On Defense, the Hokies will not have their third defensive coordinator in as many season when Coach Chris Marve begins leading the Hokies defense with primarily a standard 4-3 style of defense.  The Hokies return strong talent at each level of the defense, and certainly hope that a renewed emphasis on defense will lead to success under the defensive oriented Coach Pry.  The Hokies also hope to have a strong running game, with Malachi Thomas, Jalen Holston and Keshawn King competing for carries.

Establishing the keys to success above will bode well for a successful 2022 season as Virginia Tech kicks off a new era of Hokie football under Coach Brent Pry.  Hopefully, what is old (the traditional Hokie defense, strong running game, and competitiveness in the ACC) ) will become new again under Brent Pry in 2022.
