4.       RETAINING THE COMMONWEALTH CUP

While the University of Virginia is not a college football powerhouse, the annual rivalry game in November that determines who will have the Commonwealth Cup remains an important game on both teams’ schedules for the in-state bragging rights that the contest provides.  Virginia Tech won 15 straight games from 2004–2018 against UVA, before the Cavaliers defeated the Hokies in 2019.  Virginia Tech then won the Cup in 2020 and 2021, hopefully starting a new streak of dominance.  It is safe to assume that Brent Pry does not want to start off his time as the Hokie football coach by letting UVA take back the Commonwealth Cup, especially since the Cavaliers will be coming to Lane Stadium this year on November 26, 2022.
