Virginia Tech is looking to end a tough season on a high against Maryland in the Pinstripe Bowl today in New York. The Hokies had a disappointing season in many ways but can end on a high with a win against an old rival. It’s a battle of two 6-6 teams in this one with the Hokies looking to come out on top.

Virginia Tech vs. Maryland Odds and Betting Pick Pinstripe Bowl

WynnBET’s odds currently have the Hokies as 3.5 point underdogs against the Terrapins. The money line has Maryland at -170 and Virginia Tech at +140. The over/under is set at 55.5 points.

An area to watch in this one is going to be the Virginia Tech running game against a struggling Maryland defense. The Hokies will be missing Braxton Burmeister, Tre Turner, and Tayvion Robinson in this one. Those are three players that have been major factors for this Tech offense all season long so losing them is a big blow.

Tech turns to Blumrick under center who hasn’t shown to be that effective in the passing game. He’s played in five games and gone 7 of 16 for 42 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll have to be better in the passing game if the Hokies want to win this game but without their top two receivers, he could struggle through the air. Blumrick’s strength is his legs, he’s got 231 yards in 41 attempts and two touchdowns.

At the wide receiver spot Tayvion Robinson transferred to Kentucky and Tre Turner is focusing on the NFL Draft and chose to not participate in the bowl game. Over half of the team’s 2,156 receiving yards have come from these two players. Tre Turner led with 675 yards but Robinson wasn’t far behind with 559 yards on the season. The Hokies will have to figure out the passing game without these two.

The good news for Virginia Tech is that Maryland has struggled to stop the run game this season. The Terrapins are ranked 12th in the Big Ten giving up 162.9 yards per game on the ground. The Hokies are averaging 190.5 a game and will heavily rely on that this game. If Tech can get the running game going early Maryland could be in trouble.
