For the first time in five weeks, the Virginia Tech football team has an away football game. The Hokies travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Tech is coming off yet another frustrating loss and is currently on a three-game losing streak. Since starting the season as 2-0 they have only won one game since and it was against Richmond. The Hokies have to pick up a win in Atlanta if they want to turn this season around.

Georgia Tech comes into the matchup with a 3-4 record as well. Their last game was a 48-40 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers. The Yellow Jackets made it an interesting game and just about come up with the upset but couldn’t quite make up the 21 point deficit they had in the fourth quarter.

Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech Odds Week 9

The Week 9 betting odds on WynnBET have the Hokies as 4 point underdogs going into this one. The money line is set with Georgia Tech favored at -185 and Virginia Tech at +165. The total for the game is set at an over/under of 55.5.

Virginia Tech vs Georgia Tech Prediction Week 9

Each week there’s a new problem area with this Virginia Tech football team. Last week against Syracuse was maybe the worst defensive performance of the season. It was a defensive breakdown that allowed Syracuse to get the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute to go. The coaching and decision-making in all areas of the team just haven’t been good enough. That leads us to be underdogs to a Georgia Tech team that isn’t that good.

One bright area from that game against Syracuse was the running game. True freshman, Malachi Thomas was terrific in his breakout game. Thomas had 151 yards and three touchdowns in that 41-36 loss. There aren’t a lot of bright spots with this team right now but the freshman got his chance and ran with it. If they can continue to get him the ball and block he will be a major factor in this Georgia Tech game.

Georgia Tech’s defense has given up at least 30 points in their last four games so the opportunity is there for this Hokies offense to find some sort of rhythm.

Ultimately I want to think that this Virginia Tech team can come out of Atlanta with a win to end the three-game losing streak but they’re going to have to look a lot better than what we saw against Pittsburgh and Syracuse for that to happen.
