Virginia Tech football is back in Lane Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Virginia Tech is coming off of a frustrating loss to Notre Dame. The Hokies should have won that game but some missed opportunities led to the Fighting Irish kicking a game-winning touchdown in the last minute of the fourth quarter. The Hokies head into this crucial ACC matchup with a 3-2 record and sit behind the Panthers in the coastal division standings.

The Pittsburgh Panthers come into this game with a 4-1 record, their only loss coming at the hands of Western Michigan. Their last game was a blowout 52-21 win over Georgia Tech to start ACC play with a 1-0 record.

The Hokies are still reeling from that close loss to Notre Dame. Yet again the offense lacked efficiency and wasn’t able to convert points when needed. There was questionable play-calling throughout that game much like previous games this season.

This Pitt offense is lethal, and the Virginia Tech defense is going to have their hands full with Kenny Pickett. The defensive side of the ball has been the strength for Virginia Tech but if the offense can’t get something going this defense is going to struggle against a really good offense.

Pitt leads the ACC in terms of offensive, averaging 52.4 points and 554.4 yards per game. On the defensive side, Virginia Tech is allowing 18.6 points per game so it’s going to be a battle in this one.

I think that Virginia Tech will play tough and keep it a close game but I don’t think that this Hokies offense can match Pitt. I think that the Panthers will come away with a close one in Blacksburg.
