The Virginia Tech football team will play their first away game of the season on Saturday in a hostile Milan Puskar Stadium. It will be a renewed rivalry in Morgantown as the Hokies take on the Mountaineers. The Hokies are currently ranked 15th in the AP Poll.

The Hokies got the season started with a big win over North Carolina who was the No. 10 team in the country at the time. Week two was a bit different and we saw some mistakes made against Middle Tennessee State but the Hokies still came away with a 35-14 win.

On Saturday, they go up against rivals West Virginia for the Black Diamond Trophy.

Virginia Tech vs West Virginia Prediction Week 3

This is a big rivalry, these two schools despise each other. It’s one that they haven’t been able to play each year so both of these teams are going to come out ready to play. Virginia Tech has won the last three meetings, the most recent one being in 2017.

The crowd in Morgantown will play a factor in this one, Virginia Tech is used to loud crowds in Lane Stadium but they’ll have to be careful. Communication and staying on the same page will be key in avoiding costly penalties and turnovers.

In the Hokies’ first two games the defense has been the story. They’ll have to step up again against a good Mountaineers offense in a tough environment. Virginia Tech struggled some on offense during the first half last week, they’ll need to clean up those mistakes and get ahead early. I think that the Hokies will come away with their fourth straight win against West Virginia but it’ll come down to the wire.
