The #21 Virginia Tech Hokies softball team absolutely dominated the Tempe Regional leg of the 2021 NCAA Softball Tournament. They smashed through the BYU Cougars, Arizona State Sun Devils, and Southern Illinois Salukis to get to the Super Regionals.

It will be the first time since 2008 and only the second time in school history that Virginia Tech softball reached the Super Regionals. Hokie fans know that this team has a dangerous offense and one of the best pitchers in all the country but now all of collegiate softball is seeing that as well.

The Hokies went a perfect 3-0 outing in Regionals. They got off to a good start with a 5-2 win in their opening match against BYU. In that game, pitcher Keely Rochard had seven strikeouts and only allowed two runs on three hits. Kelsey Bennett also hit a home run in the win.

Tech came away with a strong 8-2 win against 15th overall seeded Arizona State in their second game of the region. The offense was great in that contest accounting for 14 hits with Bennett accumulating four of those and three runs. Rochard allowed only two runs in that one as well.

In the Regional Final, the Hokies capped off a great weekend with an all-around team effort 11-3 win over BYU. Alexa Milius had the walk-off in the fifth inning to give the Hokies a run-rule win.

Rochard, the ACC Pitcher of the Year, pitched three complete games on the weekend. She was phenomenal as she pitched 27 strikeouts in the three games.

Alexa Milius, Kelsey Bennett, and Cameron Fagan all had two home runs during regional play.

The Hokies will now play the winner of the Los Angeles Regional. It’s looking likely that it will mean a meeting with the No. 2 seeded UCLA Bruins in Los Angeles, California. It will be the best of three series in the Super Regionals.
