Justin Fuente and his staff continue their hot hand, landing North Carolina wide receiver Tre Turner

Snagging the top recruits from the state of North Carolina has been a priority for Virginia Tech since the arriva of Justin Fuente on campus, and on Wednesday night, Fuente and his staff received their best commitment yet out of that state.

The strong momentum on the recruiting trail continued for the Virginia Tech Hokies on Wednesday, as they landed 4-star North Carolina product Tre Turner.

After landing 3-star Orlando, Florida cornerback Braxton Clark on Tuesday night, Turner became the second prospect in as many nights to commit to Virginia Tech.

And man, is Turner a good one.

247Sports details this below, but Turner is one of the highest rated recruits to ever commit to Virginia Tech.

Fans should be extremely excited about Turner, who committed to the Hokies over conference rivals Florida State and North Carolina.

The commitment of Turner to the Hokies over the Tar Heels is particularly noteworthy, given that the ‘Heels were once considered the favorites to land this highly rated in-state prospect.

The 6’3″ 180 lbs. Turner is a big bodied receiver who has displayed an enviable combination of size and speed, and a penchant to attack the ball at its peak. Speaking of speed, he can “freading fly” as Josh Parcell shows in the hudl video that he tweeted prior to Turner’s commitment.

Turner ranks as one of the top 150 players in the nation, according to 247Sports, coming in at number 148. He is the first 4-star recruit to commit to the Hokies in the 2018 recruiting class.

The coaching staff is hoping that Turner’s commitment, as one of the top players in the state of North Carolina, will influence other North Carolina targets to pick the Hokies when they make their respective college decisions. One of those targets is 5-star defensive end K.J. Henry, who the Hokies also have high on their list this cycle.

Regardless of wether or not Henry decides to commit to Virginia Tech, it definitely says something about the Hokies’ momentum in the state when one of the top recruits is promoting the NC to VT movement on social media.

For now though, the Hokies will continue pushing hard on the trail in hopes that Turner’s commitment will move the class to even greater heights in the next nine months.
