National Signing Day is less than two months away and the Virginia Tech Hokies are making big pushes to get as many of their top remaining targets as they possibly can. A lot of recruits that entered the fall uncommitted have made their decisions recently with high school football seasons just about done in every state.
One player that the Hokies have been in hot pursuit of is 4-star WR Lawrence Cager. Tonight, he released his top 5 on Twitter via Rivals’ Mike Farrell.
It is not a surprise to see the Hokies on this list as they recently hosted Cager on an official visit and seem to be a contender. However, it is very surprising to see Georgia on this list at number 1 especially since the Bulldogs have not offered Cager a scholarship if all the major recruiting sites are correct.
Ohio State was seen as the favorite so it is surprising to not see them here while both Notre Dame and Wake Forest have had Cager on official visits and aren’t on this list. Alabama is slated to host Cager on an official visit after the dead period ends, but the Hokies are the only team that has hosted Cager on an official visit and are on this list.
To say this top 5 is surprising would be understating it especially since the number 1 team, the Georgia Bulldogs, has not offered him a scholarship, and the Miami Hurricanes and Ole Miss Rebels will not end up hosting Cager on an official visit.
Virginia Tech can use the success of Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips to their advantage especially since Cager seems to be a guy that could have some sort of early impact though likely not as a starter if he came to Blacksburg.
The Hokies are in the hunt for Lawrence Cager though his top 5 seems to be an indication that everybody should be ready for some surprises.
