The Virginia Tech Hokies are making their final push to get a few players in the Class of 2015 including 4-star DT Tim Settle, 4-star RB Nyheim Hines, 4-star OLB/DE Ricky DeBerry, 4-star WR Lawrence Cager, and 4-star OT/DT Joshua Nijman. Virginia Tech is also looking to flip a couple of commitments including Miami 4-star QB commit Dwayne Lawson, Tennessee 4-star DE commit Darrell Taylor, and 3-star UCLA ILB commit Victor Alexander.

However, the Hokies are also focusing on next year’s recruiting class and are in the top 5 of one of the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2016.

The Hokies are in the top 5 for four-star dual-threat quarterback Jawon Pass who is definitely one of the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2016. The other four finalists for Pass are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Louisville Cardinals, and North Carolina Tar Heels.

Jawon Pass is from Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia, and it is surprising to not see Georgia on his list due to the local connection or Notre Dame who was seen as a frontrunner at one point. Pass is ranked as 54th best junior by ESPN and the 247 Sports Composite, 110th by Rivals, and 13th by 247 Sports’ traditional rankings which also have him as a five-star recruit.

The Hokies already have one quarterback commit in the Class of 2016 in Logan Byrd but adding another quarterback couldn’t hurt especially with Virginia Tech’s past depth issues at quarterback. Scot Loeffler has been the primary recruiter for Pass and his recruiting ability might be what helps him keep his job for one more season though that remains to be seen.

Right now, Auburn seems to be the favorites though Louisville is looking like a surprisingly strong contender. Alabama also will likely have a good chance at getting Pass while the Hokies seem to have the fourth best chance followed by the Tar Heels.

Virginia Tech is clearly in the hunt for Jawon Pass and while Virginia Tech’s chances for him aren’t great, they have a shot at getting a very good quarterback.
