Virginia Tech football fans want to enjoy the rest of the summer; however, they are also counting down the days until the Hokies return to the football field under first-year head coach James Franklin. That begins on Sept. 5 when VMI comes to Blacksburg for the season-opener under the lights at Lane Stadium.
Betting has become a big part of sports right now, and it's heating up fast. What is also big is fantasy sports, mainly fantasy football. The die hard football fans live and breath every Thursday, Sunday and Monday with each result and stat for their fantasy football teams in the NFL.
Now, that is something Virginia Tech and all college football fans can enjoy with some of their favorite Hokies.
Yahoo Sports announces newly launched College Fantasy Football platform beginning this fall
Thursday morning, Yahoo Sports announced that they are adding fantasy college football to their long-lasting fantasy sports that already include football, baseball, basketball, and hockey at the professional level.
Yahoo is doing things a little differently when it comes to its fantasy college football league. Players from powerhouse programs, meaning Power 4 schools, plus Notre Dame, can be picked. Yahoo will also allow fans to start an "Offense" position with team-level aggregate scoring. The rosters will also be 18 players, compared to the traditional 15 players.
This is certainly going to create some spice to this season's college football season for fans on Saturdays. Virginia Tech fans can pick their favorite Hokies to add to their fantasy team if they choose to play. There are going to be some very interesting and good players to choose from on the offensive side of the ball.
This is just the latest in the ever-changing betting and fantasy sports world. Yahoo Fantasy previously offered college fantasy football in 2018, but discontinued it after the COVID-shortened 2020 season and then officially ended the game in 2021.
