After a very quiet winter transfer portal with only a handful of players who entered the portal and left Blacksburg, it was a different story this season. Head coach Brent Pry saw a mass exodus out of Blacksburg and it left the former Penn State defensive coordinator to scramble to build a roster for 2025.

Nearly all the players who entered the portal took little time to commit to a new school and some of them are making the jump to the SEC while others are headed to Group of 5 schools. Pry has done a good job of building a roster for next season through the portal, but as is the case in the current state of college sports, there are going to be players leaving to seek a big financial payday somewhere else. With that said, here is where some Virginia Tech transfers ended up in the portal.

Where every Virginia Tech transfer ended up in the transfer portal

  • OL: Xavier Chaplin (Auburn)
  • Chance Fitzgerald (Vanderbilt)
  • OL: Gunner Givens (Vanderbilt)
  • OL: Braelin Moore (LSU)
  • RB: Malachi Thomas (Purdue)
  • OL: Lance Williams (Appalachian State)
  • LB: Sam Brumfield (Memphis)
  • CB: Mansoor Delane (LSU)
  • DL: Ishmael Findlayter (Duquesne)
  • DE: C.J. McCray (Cincinnati)
  • DL: Khurtiss Perry (Jacksonville State)
  • S: Mose Phillips (Missouri)
  • DT: Malachi Madison (UMass-Amherst)
  • LB: Keli Lawson
  • Jonathan Pennix
  • S: Jalen Stroman

One note here, Lawson committed to Central Florida, but he recently de-committed and reopened his recruitment, while Pennix and Stroman have yet to commit. Six of the players are headed to the SEC and two of them, Fitzgerald and Givens, will return to Virginia Tech next season in Week 2 when the Commodores visit for a non-conference game. There is no doubt that there are some tough losses on this list for players who had eligibility to return next season, but welcome to college football in 2025 and the transfer portal.
