This week begins the path to the NFL Draft for many hopefuls. We are three months away from the draft taking place in Green Bay, but this week, the biggest bowl game with a week of preparation in front of NFL scouts, player personal directions, and coaches concludes with a game on Saturday.
The annual Reese’s Senior Bowl will take place on Saturday afternoon in Mobile, Alabama and this just isn’t any game, it’s THE GAME that scouts and coaches spend the most time breaking down and analyzing prospects. This season as far as former Virginia Tech players are concerned, this is a huge week in terms of opening some more eyes to get on more team's radars.
Some players have already made a name for themselves this season with their play for the Hokies and two of those players are cornerback Dorian Strong and running back Bhayshul Tuten. No Virginia Tech players are thought of as going early in the draft, but if there is one player that could move up to an early-round Day 2 pick, it’s Strong.
As far as Tuten goes, he is a player who is built for the NFL as a smaller running back. He was tough for opponents to bring down on first contact and he did a lot of damage in the open field. He got better with each game he played and can be a good complementary back for a team.
Virginia Tech wide receivers Jaylin Lane and Da’Quan Felton are also in Mobile looking to generate some buzz and that is what Lane was doing earlier in the week. Defensive lineman Anaeas Peebles will also play in the game.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and will be broadcast on the NFL Network. This is the premier game leading into the combine and draft as last season, 110 players who participated in the game were drafted, which made up for nearly half of the class that was chosen in Detroit. Over 900 NFL personnel were on hand this week for the workouts, and over 1,110 media members were credentialed.
