Two weeks ago, things were falling apart for the Virginia Tech football team after they fired head coach Brent Pry amid an 0-3 start. Fast forward to Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium and the Hokies are one win away from evening their record with a win over Wake Forest.
Interim coach Philip Montgomery has led Virginia Tech to wins over Wofford, an undermanned FCS team, and an upset of North Carolina State on the road last Saturday night, 23-21, as double-digit underdogs. Now they return to Blacksburg to host Wake Forest, looking for a third straight victory and second straight ACC win. This was not something that seemed possible just two weeks ago.
In their last two games, the Hokies have looked prepared, ready to play, and showing more heart than they did in their first three games. A win over the Demon Deacons would set Virginia Tech up to head to Atlanta next Saturday to play Georgia Tech. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's look at the current odds of this weekend's matchup and a prediction.

Wake Forest vs. Virginia Tech: Prediction
Let's be honest, who knows what to expect this Saturday against Wake Forest for the Hokies? After beating the Wolfpack on the road, Virginia Tech should be coming into the game with confidence, but as we have seen through the first five games, anything is possible. Kyron Drones made some big plays last week, as did his receivers and running backs, while the offensive line had its best game protecting him. Defensively, they came up with stops, including a pass breakup by Christian Ellis on NC State's final drive. If Drones can protect the ball again, it will give the Hokies a chance to even their record.
