Winners of three of their last four games, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team will be looking to be an early-season surprise in ACC play. After wins over Miami and North Carolina State in Blacksburg, the Hokies will look to pull off an upset of Wake Forest.

Last season the Demon Deacons were left out of the NCAA Tournament and it looks like they will once again be a bubble team come March. They will need each win they can get and they can ill afford a loss in Blacksburg Saturday afternoon. The Hokies will be looking to build off a huge second-half comeback win over NC State on Wednesday night.

How to Watch Wake Forest at Virginia Tech men’s basketball

If there has been one takeaway from the Hokies of late, it’s that Mike Young is coaching his butt off with a roster that is not built for the ACC. Wake Forest, however, will be their toughest test of the season aside from Duke.

Day: Saturday, Jan. 18
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Venue: Cassell Coliseum
How to Watch: ACC Network, ESPN.com, ESPN+, or FuboTV
Virginia Tech Record: 8-9 (3-3 ACC)
Wake Forest Record: 13-4 (5-1 ACC)

Against the Wolfpack, Jaden Schutt took over late in the game scoring seven of the final nine Hokies’ points to tie his career-high of 17 points. Ben Burnham had a big game, which included the steal and dunk on the final possession for the 79-76 final. Tobi Lawal continues to play outstanding for Virginia Tech and Young. He knocked down a couple of shots from behind the 3-point line and got some big baskets on the inside.

The one stat that shows how Wake Forest can be successful is hitting the 70-point mark. When they do, they’re 5-0 in ACC play. When they didn’t, they lost their one conference game at Clemson scoring only 62 points. They will want to turn the game into an up-and-down 40-minute battle.

Prediction: Wake Forest 77, Virginia Tech 68
