On Sunday, Virginia Tech added a transfer portal commitment from Maryland’s Ethen Miller. The redshirt senior will have one season of eligibility remaining for the Hokies.

A native of Kansas City, Miller competed at 157 pounds for the Terrapins during the 2024-25 campaign, during which he finished the regular season 20-0. Miller’s perfect regular season record was the best finish for a Terrapin wrestler since 2013-14.

Entering the Big 10 tournament, Miller was ranked as the No. 1 seed in the 157-pound weight class; he would eventually finish in 6th place, good enough to claim the No. 10 seed in Philadelphia at the 2025 NCAAs. Miller earned a spot in the NCAA championships in each of his three seasons in College Park. He comes to Blacksburg with a 68-23 overall record.

Miller’s addition will further bolster a Hokies squad that featured nine NCAA qualifiers and three All-Americans and finished 11th in the NCAA championships this past March. His commitment provides additional depth for head coach Tony Robie, but may require potential weight class shuffling within his roster. Virginia Tech’s 157-pound slot is currently filled by promising redshirt sophomore and 2025 ACC Champion Rafael Hipolito, Jr.

Similarly, Back-to-back NCAA finalist and 2024 National Champion Caleb Henson commands the 149-pound weight class, where Miller previously competed before moving up to 157 pounds this past season.

Robie could have Miller move up a weight class to 165 pounds, a weight at which the Hokies haven’t had a serious NCAA contender since Mekhi Lewis won the first NCAA Championship in school history in 2019. In doing so, Robie could further fill out the middle of his lineup substantially.
