According to Charlie Creme of ESPN, after a 25-point win at Virginia on Sunday afternoon, the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team remains squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble. The Hokies' margin of error over the final five games is rather thin. How thin? That remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say that a resume-building win is needed for Virginia Tech.
Two big opportunities are remaining for Megan Duffy’s team and the first is Thursday night when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face No. 12 North Carolina. As is the case with the top teams in the conference this year, this is going to be a difficult task for the undermanned Hokies. UNC has a lot to play for with a Top 16-seed in play to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament next month.
How to watch Virginia Tech at North Carolina women’s basketball
A win at North Carolina would be huge for Virginia Tech, but it’s going to be tough. It will be even tougher if Tech plays without center Rose Micheaux who has missed the last two games against Syracuse and Virginia with an injury.
- Date: Thursday, Feb. 13

While a Top 16 seed is in play for the Tar Heels and a resume-building win for the Hokies is in play, so is a bye in the first round of the ACC Tournament for Duffy’s team. After this game, there is one more chance at a résumé-building win for Virginia Tech when they host Cal on Feb. 23, three days after hosting Stanford.
North Carolina enters the game winners of four of their last five games with the latest being on Sunday at Clemson when they left with a two-point win, 53-51. Their one loss in the last five games was an 86-84 decision at home against Florida State on Jan. 26.
