On Sunday, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team enjoyed a bye and a weekend off after a brutal stretch of games. That stretch ended with a tremendous effort last Thursday night at No. 12 North Carolina when the Hokies took the Tar Heels down to the wire in the fourth quarter only to lose, 67-62.
Virginia Tech has four regular season games remaining in the 2024-25 season before the ACC Tournament next month. Right now Megan Duffy's team is in ninth place in the standings and in control of earning a bye on Day 1 of the conference tournament. They have games with Stanford and California this week followed by road games next week at Boston College and Clemson before things heat up for March Madness.
Despite being off this past weekend, the big question was how would it affect their standing in the latest ESPN bracketology with Charlie Creme? The answer was released on Monday morning.
Virginia Tech women remain in the Last Four In latest bracketology
Creme updated his bracketology after a wild weekend of games on the court and Virginia Tech remained in the same spot they were last week, part of the Last Four In. Joining them are Washington, Harvard, and Iowa State. Right now Creme has them matched up with Iowa State in the Chapel Hill Region, which would not likely be a destination as matching them up with UNC is unlikely by the tournament committee.
Regardless, if you ask Duffy and her team, they would go wherever they needed to if they were part of the 68-team field. All of the Hokies remaining games are Quad 2 opportunities at the moment and every win ahead of the ACC Tournament would be a résumé building opportunity. That begins Thursday night at Cassell Coliseum against Stanford before Cal makes their first trip in as an ACC member on Sunday afternoon.
