With one day already in the books at the 2025 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, Virginia Tech will hit the court in Greensboro in the second round as an eight-seeded. The Hokies get ninth-seeded Georgia Tech, and the winner gets a date with top-seeded North Carolina State on Friday.

This is a huge game for Virginia Tech as their NCAA Tournament hopes could very well be determined by the outcome of this game. They are the first team out of the field according to Charlie Creme of ESPN with Harvard recently passing them for the final spot. A win over the Yellow Jackets might be enough to propel them back into the field, depending on results in other tournaments before Selection Sunday on March 16.

How to watch Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech women’s basketball ACC Tournament game

Losses in February to Syracuse, Stanford, and Boston College, the first two at home, have hurt the Hokies, otherwise they might be able to absorb a loss to Georgia Tech and still be fine for the 68-team field. They do have a win over the Yellow Jackets back in January, which was a double overtime win when Georgia Tech was still undefeated.

The seven teams in front of Virginia Tech in the ACC standings are going to be in the NCAA Tournament field, as well as Georgia Tech, but for all intents and purposes, this is another must-win for Megan Duffy’s team of they are going to get to where they want to be in a couple of weeks.

If the Hokies are going to collect a second win in 2024-25 over the Yellow Jackets, they’ll have to defend better than they have in the last month. In their losses to Syracuse, Stanford, and BC, they have scored more than enough points to win games, but their inability to get stops is what has hurt them.
