When the women's basketball transfer portal opened on Tuesday, Virginia Tech coach Megan Duffy lost her first two players to the portal when a pair of freshmen, Myah Hazelton and Ramiya White, entered. Both players did not see the court much this season, with Hazelton holding over her commitment from when Kenny Brooks was at Tech and White following assistant coach Jen Hoover from Kentucky to Blacksburg.

On Wednesday, Duffy lost her third player to the portal, and it's a big one as it was one of her starting players who ended up playing just one season in Blacksburg after transferring last year after Duffy was hired.

Virginia Tech wing Lani White enters the transfer portal

Junior wing Lani White will enter the transfer portal after coming over last year from Utah. She was a big piece of the Hokies this season with her play at both ends of the floor. She averaged 9.6 points a game this year and shot the ball in the second half of the season well from the outside. She also averaged 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in just over 26 minutes of action a night. Her defense was good as well for Duffy with her ability to switch and guard different positions.

This is arguably the biggest loss to date for either the men or the women, as she was going to be a big part of the Hokies next season. This leaves a big opening at the wing position for Duffy and she'll have to attempt to fill it through the transfer portal.

This leaves Duffy with needing to replace three starters with Rose Micheaux and Matilda Ekh graduating and it remains to be seen if anyone else will hit the portal. Expect Duffy to be aggressive in the portal making additons to the roster for Year 2.
