One of the first players to announce they were leaving Virginia Tech was forward Neoklis Avdalas. He started an exodus that included freshman center Christin Gurdak, and guards Jaden Schutt and Izaiah Pasha.
On Monday, it was reported that Avdalas had committed to North Carolina and new coach Michael Malone. As for Schutt, you figured that he would be sought-after in the portal as someone who can shoot the ball, but his defense is suspect at best sometimes.
On Monday, it was reported that he committed to Kansas State, and after three seasons in the ACC, he'll be heading to the Big 12.

Former Virginia Tech transfer Jaden Schutt commits to Kansas State
Schutt was a four-star recruit out of high school in Illinois. He began his career at Duke before transferring to Virginia Tech for the last two seasons. He started a good amount of games two years ago, but the emergence of Ben Hammond late in his freshman year changed that.
This past season, with Avdalas and Hammond in the fold, Schutt was a backup. In 64 games over his two seasons in Blacksburg, he averaged 7.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists a game. He was the type of player who, when he's feeling it from behind the arc, can score and fill up the boxscore. In 2024-25, he tallied 20 points and was 6-for-7 from the field in an overtime win over Syracuse at home.
As far as Virginia Tech goes, Young has landed one transfer on Sunday when Oklahoma's Kuol Atak committed. He could be an underrated addition for the Hokies, as he is a similar player to Schutt, someone who shoots the ball well and can fill up the boxscore. Young still has a lot of work to do in terms of landing more portal additions as a big is a huge need right now.
