Going into the final month of the regular season, the Virginia Tech softball team was making a case to be a Top 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament and host on the first weekend in Blacksburg. Those plans hit some major bumps in the road after they dropped two out of three at Pittsburgh, then last weekend, they dropped two out of three at home to Florida State.
In most of the different bracketologies that were circulating, the Hokies were either hosting as the 16th-seed or on the road again when the NCAA Tournament starts next weekend. At the ACC Tournament, they picked a huge 4-0 victory over North Carolina before dropping a 10-9 decision on Friday afternoon to Clemson in a game in which they led 9-2 going into the bottom of the sixth and allowed eight runs in inexcusable playing conditions in the pouring rain.
Clemson went on to beat Florida State in Saturday's championship game, and following a loss in terrible playing conditions, the Hokies were left waiting until the NCAA Tournament selection show to see if they did enough to earn a Top 16 seed. In the end, the Hokies were robbed by the NCAA Tournament committee.
Virginia Tech robbed of National Seed, will travel to Alabama
Virginia Tech will again be on the road for the NCAA Tournament as they will travel to Alabama again this season as the Crimson Tide got the 15th National Seed. The Hokies split two games back in February in the Easton Bama Bash, winning 2-1, the getting run-ruled, 9-1. Virginia Tech will play Belmont, making its first-ever appearance in the tournament, on Friday afternoon at 3:30, with Alabama facing Jackson State in the other game in the regional.

Oregon for the 16th and final National Seed, and there is no doubt that Virginia Tech should have been a Top 16 seed and was robbed of one more opportunity to play at Tech Softball Park.
