This week, coming off a bye, the Virginia Tech football team will host California on Friday night at Lane Stadium in what seems to be their annual weeknight game in Blacksburg. Two years ago, it was Syracuse on a Thursday night, and last year it was Boston College on a Thursday night as well.

This year the Golden Bears are making the cross-country trip to play the Hokies and interim coach Philip Montgomery. After Cal visits, Virginia Tech will host Louisville on Nov. 1 and on Monday, the ACC released the kick off time for the game.

The ACC released some start times and TV assignments for games on Nov. 1. The Hokies will host the Cardinals at 3 p.m. on the CW Network. This will be their third game on the network after their Sept. 27 win at North Carolina State was on there and their home game a week later against Wake Forest also on there.

The good news is that Virginia Tech and Louisville avoided the dreaded six-day hold that the conference outs on games in advance. Those games that weekend include Georgia Tech at NC State, Miami at SMU, Virginia at California, and Notre Dame at Boston College.

Before the season started, you knew that it was going to be a tough game when Louisville visits, but after the Cardinals performance last Friday night in upsetting No. 2 Miami in South Florida, 24-21, they are going to a big challenge for the shorthanded Hokies.

After Louisville's win, they are now in a mix in the ACC where they don't control their own destiny to the ACC Championship Game after losing to Virginia earlier this year. They will need a win if they want to remain in the mix for early December in Charlotte.
