The 2024-25 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament will get underway on Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte. Duke won the regular season title with a 19-1 record after a second half rally on Saturday night to beat rival North Carolina. In what is a rare situation, head coach Jon Scheyer will play the conference tournament and the NCAA Tournament without one of his top assistants, Jai Lucas.

Why will he be without Lucas? He is leaving to take the job at the University of Miami, replacing Jim Larranaga and interim coach Bill Courtney who led the Hurricanes to a season-ending win over North Carolina State on Saturday afternoon. One reason why Lucas is beginning his tenure in South Florida before the upcoming tournaments is that the transfer portal opens March 24 and he has his work cut out for himself in terms of evaluating the current roster and making additions through the portal.

Florida State names new men's hoop coach

Leonard Hamilton will coach in his final ACC Tournament this week and he won his 200th career game in the ACC, but will retire. The Seminoles have hired Sacramento Kings assistant coach Luke Loucks as Hamilton's replacement. That leaves Virginia and North Carolina State with openings.

Duke women win ACC Tournament

On Thursday, the Hokies women's basketball team was eliminated from the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament in the second round by Georgia Tech, 72-57, which puts their NCAA Tournament hopes squarely on the bubble. On Sunday, Duke captured the ACC Championship Game with a 76-62 win in Greensboro.

After the game, Charlie Creme said on the ACC Network broadcast that Virginia Tech's NCAA Tournament hopes are not completely dashed yet and will be determined by what happens in the next week in other conference tournaments. He did say that a win over Syracuse, Stanford or Boston College would have them safely in the field. Oh the pain.

Women's lacrosse beats Louisville

The Hokies women's lacrosse team improved to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the ACC with a 16-7 win at Louisville on Saturday. Mia Pozzi had five goals and two assists for Virginia Tech, while Maura O'Malley and Kamryn Henson each had three. Tech, who travels to 7-1 Stanford on Friday night, scored seven fourth quarter goals to run away from the Cardinals.
