Now that spring football practices are officially underway for Virginia Tech, so are the recruiting visits in the Classes of 2026 and 2027. Rising junior quarterback DJ Hunter, from Knoxville, Tenn., was on campus for a visit, and he liked what he saw. He said Virginia Tech holds a "special spot" with him as his recruitment picks up.

That is some good news for head coach Brent Pry and offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery for the Class of 2027 signal caller. One issue the Hokies are going to have is the other programs that will get into the mix for Hunter, with his hometown Volunteers hosting him in a couple of weeks. He is also planning a visit to Virginia later this spring.

Kenny Brooks named Coach of the Year

Former Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Kenny Brooks was named the Sporting News women's basketball Coach of the Year in his first season at Kentucky. He has led the Wildcats to a top 16 seed and they will host the first and second round this weekend in Lexington.

Cori McMillan reaches milestone

Virginia Tech softball standout Cori McMillan cranked her 50th career home run on Wednesday in the Hokies doubleheader sweep of Longwood. The Hokies won the first game, 10-0, in five innings, then won the nightcap, 7-1.

In the opener, Jayden Jones and Emily LeGette each had home runs in the run-rule win. McMillan hit her career home run in the second game as Virginia Tech improved to 25-5. The 14th-ranked Hokies are off this weekend and won't return to the field until next weekend when they host Stanford in a key ACC clash.

NC State hires Will Wade as men's basketball coach

North Carolina State wasted little time in firing Kevin Keatts after the Wolfpack suffered a season-ending loss to Miami earlier this month. One day before McNeese opens the NCAA Tournament against Clemson, NC State will reportedly hire McNeese coach Will Wade as their next head coach. That kind of speculation came out right before the NCAA Tournament, but Virginia Tech fans dealt with the same issue last season with talks of Brooks and Kentucky.
