The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team has an opportunity to complete a rare feat on Saturday afternoon. On Feb. 1, the Hokies took the trip to Charlottesville and left John Paul Jones Arena with a one-point win over Virginia. After building a lead, Virginia Tech survived some missed free throws to escape with the win.
Now, they get a chance 14 days later to complete the season sweep of their in-state rivals in the final Commonwealth Clash of the 2024-25 regular season. When ACC play began in full, I’m not sure many Hokies’ fans saw them being in this situation where they would have a chance to complete a season sweep of the Cavaliers on their home floor.

The Cavaliers have won both games since losing to the Hokies, beating Pittsburgh, 75-61, on the road on Feb. 3.

With a win, Virginia Tech can get back to .500 in the ACC, while Virginia can tie Virginia Tech in the ACC standings with a win on the road. For Virginia Tech, containing Issac McNeely as the Cavaliers' offense goes through him.
As far as the Hokies go, if they can defend the way they did in the second half at Notre Dame, they’ll have a good chance at sweeping Virginia. Offensive execution will be key also and hitting more shots than they did against the Irish, going 6-for-31 from behind the arc.
