Over the last couple of days, there have been some additions to the schedule for the Virginia Tech men's basketball team for the 2026-27 season and beyond. There are no tournaments on the schedule for Mike Young's team like the Battle 4 Atlantis last season, but there are going to be some very interesting non-conference games on the slate.

Earlier this week, Virginia Tech and Iowa announced that they are going to play a non-conference game in Sioux City, Iowa, in November. On Thursday, Virginia Tech announced they are going to begin a three-year contract with West Virginia. This upcoming season, the two teams will play in Morgantown, then the 2027-28 battle will be in Blacksburg. There will be a neutral site meeting in Charleston, West Virginia, in 2028-29.

Virginia Tech and West Virginia begin a much-needed men's basketball series

Let's be honest, this is something that is long overdue. The last time the two teams met was in December of 2015, which is eye-opening. Virginia Tech and West Virginia should have met more times in the last 10-plus years.

The two schools are separated by just 250 miles, and the Mountaineers have won 49 of the 79 meetings. What makes this matchup even more intriguing is what happened last offseason. Young brought back assistant coach Chester Frazier, who was at West Virginia, and also added Amani Hansberry through the Transfer Portal. It will be a homecoming for the two on Dec. 5 when the game is played. The time has yet to be determined.

Virginia Tech putting together an interesting non-conference schedule

As mentioned above, the Hokies are putting together an interesting non-conference schedule before ACC play begins. There is no Duke on the ACC schedule next season, but Young has put together a decent non-conference slate.

Aside from Iowa and West Virginia, the Hokies are going to host Ole Miss as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge in December in Blacksburg. These are three games that are going to be big for the Hokies' résumé come next March.
