If there is one area where Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his staff have been very good in, it has been recruiting within the state of Virginia. Whether it's bringing recruits home in the transfer portal or high school recruits, the fourth-year coach has been making waves.
When he took the job after the school moved on from Justin Fuente, Pry new that one way to turn things around in Blacksburg was to excel in recruiting in the Commonwealth. The last couple cycles have proved to be successful in that area, but right now, Pry and Fontel Mines have their work cut out for them when it comes to an elite receiver in the Class of 2026.

Virginia Tech has one commit in the Class of 2026, wide receiver Carnell Warren, who committed a couple of months ago. Now, the Hokies have made the Top 7 for the top wide receiver according to 247Sports in Virginia, four-star Travis Johnson, who narrowed his list on Friday.

That's a loaded list that Johnson has, but the fact that Virginia Tech made the list is a good sign. He has six visists lined up for May and June, with a trip scheduled to Blacksburg on June 20. He's also working on setting up a visit to North Carolina and Bill Belichick.
Virginia Tech has some dynamic young receivers currently in the program, but Johnson, from Chesapeake, is the type of talent that the Hokies need in terms of play-making and overall presence on the field. The 6-foot-3, 165-pounder has a high skill set and can make plays all over the field.
You would have to think Fontel Mines is handling Johnson's recruitment and his success of late on the recruiting trail speaks for itself and gives the Hokies a chance in this recruitment.
