After dropping their first two games of their final ACC series of the weekend to No. 9 Florida State, the Virginia Tech softball team was desperate for a victory to conclude the series at Tech Softball Park on Sunday afternoon.

Florida State captured the ACC regular season title with a 13-4 rout on Friday night. The Seminoles cruised to a win in Game 2 on Saturday afternoon, 8-0, as Jazzy Francik fired a no-hitter, something that you never thought would happen to the Hokies this season. On Sunday afternoon, Virginia Tech was able to grind out a win to avoid being swept with an 8-6 victory.

After falling behind 4-2, the Hokies got two home runs from Cori McMillan and one each from Zoe Yaeger and Bre Peck. Yaeger drove in three runs, while McMillan and Peck each drove in two. Emma Mazzarone improved to 11-2 after scattering six hits, allowing six runs and walking six, while Emma Lemley came on the pick up the save by hurling a scoreless seventh inning as 15th-ranked Tech improved to 40-10 overall and 18-6 in the ACC.

Both teams will head up to Chestnut Hill and the campus of Boston College this week for the ACC Tournament that kicks off on Wednesday. The Hokies are the fourth seed and will play the winner of Wednesday's matchup in the first round between North Carolina and Notre Dame on Thursday night at 7:30 on the ACC Network.
